Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Tuesday that Russian troops would continue their advance into Ukraine following the capture of the town of Avdiivka.
Putin described the retreat of Ukrainian troops from Avdiivka as chaotic, claiming it as a significant victory for Russia.
President Vladimir Putin’s Victory Speech:
During a meeting with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Putin praised the success of Avdiivka but emphasized the need for careful planning and preparation for further advances.
He stressed the importance of providing personnel, weapons, equipment, and ammunition for sustained progress.
Ukrainian Response and Criticism of U.S. Aid Delay:
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed frustration with the loss of Avdiivka, attributing it to a lack of necessary weapons and ammunition, which he claimed were delayed due to the U.S. Congress’s failure to approve a substantial aid package for Ukraine. Kuleba warned of Russia’s intentions to continue its aggression beyond Avdiivka.
Kuleba underscored the urgency of providing aid to Ukraine, highlighting the sacrifices made by Ukrainian troops and the consequences of delay in decision-making.
He urged swift action, emphasizing that every day of delay in assisting could result in further loss of life on the battlefield.
Status of U.S. Aid Package:
While the U.S. Senate approved a $95 billion aid package, including support for Ukraine, House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson has not scheduled a vote.
The delay in approving the aid package raises concerns about the impact on Ukraine’s ability to defend against Russian aggression.
